How We Work
In order to provide the best quality of care possible, we follow a grassroots, person-centred way of working that aligns with the values of our community.
Mount Carmel Clinic, a unique community health centre, exists to work together with people, families, and communities, to enhance lifelong health and wellbeing.
Healthy, strong, children, youth, adults, Elders, and communities.
We provide services from a place of non-judgement and self-determination, while practicing from a harm-reduction, pro-choice, trauma-informed lens. We also strive to provide a culturally-safe atmosphere, with a staff team that reflects the community with which we work.
We base our services and practice around the determinants of health:
Social Determinants of Health
There are many factors in a person’s life that influence their overall health, aside from physical issues. These factors are known as the Social Determinants of Health:
Employment and Working Conditions
Early Childhood Development
Gender & Gender Identity
Income and Income Distribution
Social Safety Network
Unemployment and Job Security
