Social Workers - Counselling and Health Promotion
Description
Counselling The two primary health social workers offer individual and some couple counselling to clients of Mount Carmel Clinic and community members of the North End/Point Douglas community. We generally offer 12 sessions to begin and reassess after that to determine if further counselling is required. Common issues addressed in counselling are anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, relationships, adjustment and boundaries.
Referrals The primary health social workers regularly refer people to various agencies and services. If a person is in need of assistance or support and they do not meet the eligibility requirements or another agency or service would be better suited to meet their needs we will do our best to make suggestions as to where they may be able to access the services and support they desire. We regularly receive referrals from the primary health program for counselling, advocacy or support.
Advocacy Social workers at MCC provide advocacy service to empower clients who need a stronger voice by helping them to express their needs and make their own decisions.
Eligibility
Counselling services are available to people who currently receive their primary health care at Mount Carmel Clinic. People who live in the South Point Douglas area (generally speaking people with R2W, R2K and R2L postal codes) that do not receive primary health services at Mount Carmel Clinic are also able to access counselling provided that they are not eligible for other counselling (i.e. Treaty Benefits or employment benefits). The counsellors in our program work with individuals that are 18 years of age and older.
