Manitoba Introduces Chiropractic Services Pilot Project
Mount Carmel Clinic today announced the official grand opening of a new chiropractic clinic at Mount Carmel Clinic in Winnipeg. Manitoba Family Services Minister and Consumer Affairs Minister Gord Mackintosh was on hand to participate in the grand opening ceremonies. Family Services is supporting the new chiropractic services as a pilot project, providing grants of up to $75,000 per year."
The new clinic, at 886 Main Street in Winnipeg, is designed to expand health care options for residents of the city's North End and Point Douglas neighbourhoods. The no-fee, chiropractic service has been operating two days a week since January. Services include: physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment, education and referrals. As part of the outreach services offered by Mount Carmel Clinic, the chiropractic clinic is involved in community programs promoting healthy living strategies. Key information on exercise and healthy eating is offered on the web and at community sessions.
"We are very pleased chiropractic care is now being offered as part of the wide range of services at our Clinic," said Betty Edel, Executive Director of Mount Carmel Clinic. "This service is a healthy option and is offered to area residents, individuals on Employment and Income Assistance and the working poor."
"Our Association is pleased to bring chiropractic care to more North End and Point Douglas area residents," said Dr. Gerald Olin, on behalf of the Manitoba Chiropractors' Association. "In partnership with Mount Carmel Clinic and with the assistance of the Manitoba government, this project expands health care options available to low-income Manitobans in the community and chiropractors will provide treatment and will also promote healthy lifestyles."
The Mount Carmel Clinic is a non-profit, secular community health centre whose purpose is to create and promote healthy inner city communities. It was established more than 80 years ago in response to the needs of the immediate local community. Over the years, it became a health care pioneer in treating individuals and families as holistic entities.
